New Toy

In my 23+ years of racing I have never owned a “real” time trial bike.  I always had to make do with my road race bike and clip on aero bars.  That has now changed!
As a “reward” to myself for my promotion at work I picked up a 2011 Trek Speed Concept 7.0 from S&W Sports in Concord, NH.  Tim Farmer gave me a great deal on last years model that he had in stock. This sucker ranks in the top 3 of nicest bikes I have owned at this point in my life.

Trek Speed Concept 7.0

I spent most of Thursday  night sizing it up.  I had to cut down the aero bars, move the stem down quite a bit on the steerer tube, cut a bunch of extra long housing, etc.

My main goal this year is to do some duathlons and a couple time trials.  I’m not into the triathlon thing, even though Paul is.  I am a firm believer that you should not sweat while swimming.
Anyways….this is a size small, as I am only 5’4″.  I am hoping to get it outside for a few test runs in the coming weeks.  I’ll give a more complete review after I log some miles on it and get the fit dialed in a bit better.

Right now I am pretty impressed with how light it is for the “lowest end” model of the carbon speed concept series.  There is an aluminum version available too, but with the deal S&W gave me, this was only a hair more expensive than ordering a 2012 aluminum model.
First race with this sucker will be the Wrentham Duathlon in April.

Narrow profile

Above it the stereotypical head on shot to show you how narrow this thing is.

Simple black!

The only thing I added to this so far is the sticker so people know who’s bike this is!

Thanks for reading.
