Finding a Routine Again

Much more important things have kept me from writing something down for a couple weeks.

After Mia and I got back Paulina Lake things were normal for about 24 hours.  Then I was scrambling to get back to NH as quickly as possible.  My father passed away on July 7th, 2016.  It wasn’t a complete surprise, but it was way quicker than I think any of us had anticipated.  His health was one of the reasons I choose to go home over Father’s Day Weekend.  I wanted to go see him on my terms and not because it was an emergency visit.  I’m glad I did get home too, he passed away on the 7th, I flew out on the morning of the 8th.  But spending Father’s Day helping them move into their new apartment gave me a chance to see him one last time.

I got to spend a glorious week living with my mom again.  We’d hang out in the morning and watch the Tour de France on TV.  We hit up some of my favorite Concord, NH places like The Crust & Crumb, White Mtn Coffee, Bread & Chocolate, The Works (always to be known as Bagel Works in my mind).   I spent a massive amount of time hanging out with my siblings too.  It was a shitty week for obvious reasons, but it was also a great week to be together as a family.  I am so very grateful for my huge family! Very grateful to have Mia by my side through this whole ordeal too.

We are now back in Oregon for a week as of today, and I feel like I am just starting to get back into a normal swing of things.  I was both physically and mentally exhausted/drained for most of this past week.  I miss watching the Tour with my mom, and I look forward to getting back east again to hangout with my family.

I want to thank both Norman Edgar Rhodes Sr and Sandra Palmer Rhodes for being my parents.  It’s because of you two that all of us Rhodes siblings are who we are today.  Both the good and bad (hahaha)

Thanks for reading,

-Pete

  1. Peter and Paul,
I’m sorry to read about the passing of your Dad. When I was back in New Hampshire this last week of June I pedaled by your house in Bow and thought of you two, knowing about the health of your Dad. I hope you find peace in having been raised by such a great Dad and the memories you shared with him.
